I've had this book on my bedside table for some time and picked it up last night to have a read. I think it may have been one of those divine pushes because the timing is so relevant.
Ortberg writes:
"Inside your soul there is a battle between a flourishing self - the person you were created to be - and a languishing self."I love the language that he uses, as it has put something that I'd thought for a while in a new and fresh way.
So here's the question... (you're probably between the two)
Is your soul flourishing?
OR
Is your soul languishing?
A flourishing soul steps in time with the spirit of God, deeply connected, aware of the purpose for living. The flourishing soul is drawn to throw off sin,and to be transformed by God's renewing. A flourishing soul is curious to love and learn. A flourishing makes time for the important things and people. A flourishing soul realises that we are spiritually great not because of what we do, but because we're living the God-ordained life that we have been so freely given.
The languishing soul on the other hand is discontent, provides space for bad habits to form. The languishing soul uses various excuses and anaesthetics to justify and lessen the sense of drifting it feels. The languishing soul isn't easily motivated to learn and provides and inward focus.
I want my soul to flourish.
Psalm 51:12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
