Fad diets

Whether it's Atkins, South Beach, Cabbage Soup, the Hollywood, The Zone or the 3 day, fad diets are big news and big business!

The reason for going through such a regime? We know what we want the end result to be! A size 20 to a size 12, 20 stone to 12 stone! We have a goal in mind, what we'd be happy with and want to achieve it. The problem is we don't want to put in the effort to achieve it, we want that weight to fall off over night!

I think we also know that the best way to diet is a balanced diet and regular exercise. But, there must be an easier way so that we can fit into the bikini for the summer, or lose the weight gained through Christmas overeating. Our culture informs our attitude to dieting - we want the result and we want it NOW

I've been observing recently that the same is true for many Christians and their faith. We know there is a God, we know how to build relationship with God through prayer and his word, but we want quick fix. We want the intimacy and the excitement of being near to God and hearing his voice, but we want that now without putting the effort and the sacrifice in.
Unfortunately, this has been and to some extent still is true for me and for many more Christians.

And if that's how we feel then what example are we setting to our young people and those who see us as role models?
Fad Christianity feels great after conferences and events, but finds it hard to put a relationship with God into the busyness of day-to-day life. Fad Christianity knows there is a problem and knows the solution, but just can't seem to put it right.

The thing is Fad diets don't really work! The diets that work are those which are balanced, take longer and we're committed to.
Guess what, Fad Christianity doesn't work. The faith that works is that which is balanced, is in it for the long haul and we're committed to!

I've had enough of Fad Christianity, it's time for some balance!
