Guilty?

I have been thinking about the promises of God. It is very easy to recite some of God's promises to us, but not as easy to apply them. The recognition of the power and authority of the word and truth of God has to not only be known in our hearts but must make the journey down into our hearts and out into our lives.

Do you feel guilty when you sin? The 'i know I shouldn't have done that feeling' consumes your thoughts and feelings and a spiritual grieving process begins. The things we do cause us to build up a wall between us and God because often we presume Gods reaction is one of disappointment and condemnation!

I came across a great passage of scripture which you can find in the story of Absalom in 2nd Samuel. This one verse (2 Sam 14:14) jumped out at me:

Like water spilled on the ground which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But, God does not take away life, instead He devises ways so that a banished person might not be estranged from him

If you feel guilty for sin, you are not alone. But, God wants to devise ways that we might not be estranged from Him. What an amazing promises, we have an almighty advocate who longs to stands up for us in the heavenlys and fights on our behalf. We might feel guilty but God does not choose to banish but to reconcile. In Him there is no condemnation (Romans 8:1-2)

Do you feel guilty? God's promise to those who believe is forgiveness. Through Jesus we are set free from the law of sin and death. The reality is that we all sin, not one is sinless. We so often condemn ourselves on God's behalf (and don't get me wrong there is a place for mourning our weakness and lamenting our unfaithfulness) but God, the promiser is faithful (Heb 10:23) and promises that the blood of Jesus washes, sanctifies and justifies (1 Cor 6:11) so that we might approach the throne of grace with freedom, and even confidence! (Eph 3:12)

What a great promise when the guilt of our lives and the world seems to overcome us. Let's not dwell on guilt, but ask for forgiveness from it for God longs for us to be free!
