Culture

One of the key things that we must consider pieces of scripture is what is the cultural context that this was written in an how might it apply to today!

We read in the Bible of swordsman, fortresses, threshing floors, jars. Much language that we don't hear of so much today because of technological and chronological advancement, but we realise that these things are talked about because they were relevant for the time and may be relevant even for now!

So if culture is such a big thing, then why is our practical theology not being informed by the culture we live in?
Why is the church not grasping at all it can to be relevant to the prevailing culture?

If we do not understand the culture in which we live how might we apply to it?

Please, don't misunderstand me here. I hold fast to the gospel of grace being true and relevant to every and any culture. Yet I also believe that we as the church have a responsibility to be witnesses in the various contexts in which we find ourselves.

How can we not be poisoned by the consumeristic culture in which we exist, but be a voice that helps shape it to be a Godly and gracious culture?

What is the churches reaction in the face of constant cultural change, and perhaps the challenge is, what should it be?
