This great quote has taken on new meaning to me today. In this year as the Christian church unifies under the banner of Hope2008 I have been challenged that everyone needs hope, and our God is the God of hope.
But, is it not true that the unbeliever sees 'hope' in the 'faith' of the believer. Something crazy like 79% of Christians come to faith through the witness of their friends. Hope is seen in faith. I guess that is why Kierkegaard refers to the two as reasonable companions!
I also have realised that it is so easy to fall into a bubble, to rest on the worlds security and to not exercise a faithful lifestyle. I am excited by living a life of faith, because it means I have to trust God.
When we have faith and trust in our God, He will answer. He equips those He calls. He leads those who long. He teaches those who search. When we start to do these things the faith we have is undeniable even to a world that does not believe. That's when people see hope in our faith.
I long to display a hope-filled faith!
