The phrase that has been floating around my head recently revolves around this concept of setting examples.
HOW CAN I EXPECT THE YOUNG PEOPLE TO LIVE OUT FAITH IF I DO NOT SET AN EXAMPLE
As a youth leader this is a huge burden. My desire is to see our young people grow in their faith to the point where it starts to impact those around them, whether by word, thought or deed! The life of faith is not always the most attractive! Expecially for young people, when church doesn't seem to connect but other things outside of church life and God life do! As leader I have to set an example that the journey of faith is an exciting one.
Or this concept can be stetched to other forms of leadership. Whether it's parents who from the word go should set an example to their children of life, love, respect. Or it maybe a teacher who has responsibility for a group of 4 year olds just starting out on the educational journey, they have to set a example. Or maybe the experienced mechanic taking on a new apprentice, an professional example has to be set.
The world revolves around people setting examples.
The reality is that not all examples are GOOD!!
Celebritites fighting and getting arrested, business people getting caught up in illegal dealing to make them profitable, footballers squandering their wealth on sex and drugs.
How in a world of such brokeness, of pain, suffering, wars and famine can we set an example for Jesus.
Exactly like he did. We need to throw off everything that hinders us, throw off misconceptions, worldly views and reach out to people!!
We need to show love to PEOPLE, spend time with PEOPLE, pray for PEOPLE.
Jesus went to the broken, the poor, the down and outs and loved!! What an example.
The best parents are the ones who invest time and effort into their children.
The best managers are those who gain the respect of their workforce
The best leaders are those who spend time with the people they lead.
The best youth workers are those who sow and set example of faithful lives to the young people.
Example setting is not about just doing, but it's about investing those examples into people!!
