Disciple

As I reflected on the cross of Christ once again today I tried to put myself in the position of the people there. Think about the disciples for instance. These guys had followed Jesus for 3 years; they accept Jesus as the Messiah, as God basically!!

Matt 16: 15 we hear of Peter’s confession of Christ:

‘Who do you say I am?’ ‘YOU ARE THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD’

The disciples understood the Messiah to be the saviour of the world who was foretold in the Old Testament and through Jewish tradition as the one who would restore Gods kingdom. Many Old Testament prophecies point to this, one of many examples is Isaiah 11.

The disciples saw Jesus heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, release people from demon possession, bring back to life, and many more miracles. They heard him speak wisdom into situations; they had been there when he taught, and when he rebuked, when he baffled religious zealots. They had lived, walked, talked with Jesus.

And now he hangs on a cross dying….

Put yourself in their shoes. ‘But, he said he’s the Messiah, the saviour, but he’s dying’ ‘Was he the Messiah?’

When things go beyond us, we doubt! When we don’t understand, we doubt! When we’re unsure, we doubt!

The reality is that Jesus knew God had a plan. The disciples didn’t have to know! (Although Jesus did tell them – Matt 16:21) GOD HAD A PLAN… wait a minute… God HAS a plan!

When we’re thinking God has forsaken us, or that we don’t have a clue – God has a plan. When I’m thinking I don’t have enough youth volunteers for next year – God knows. When I think I know what’s right – God does! When we face trials and problems, somehow through those painful times GOD HAS A PLAN!!

Jesus was hanging on that cross, yet through death we have life!
GOD’S PLAN!

We need to learn to hear, obey, and live Gods plan for our lives. (Even if we cannot see where they’re heading)
