Participate

We are called to participate!

To be part of this journey, this road that God leads us down. In my personal study times I have been looking through the books of 1 and 2 Peter. As I read through one particular passage, this word stuck out to me! Participate.

'Through these he has given us great and precious promises , so that through him you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption of this world caused by evil desires' 2 Peter 1 vs 4

As I read through this I had this image in my mind of the school playground, remember how at lunchtime there would be huge games of football. Normally the two best players would be captains and would slowly pick out players from their team according to ability. As the numbers lessened, so did the ability level until eventually there was the one person who wasn't really a great footballer, but wanted to play, but none of the teams wanted that person. It struck me that if God were the captain then he would choose anyone, everyone, no matter what the ability - in fact he would probably choose those who the world sees as less able FIRST!!

Through Christ we have the chance to participate, in Christ we are called to participate!

We are called to participate in this thing called Godliness, to strive after the heart, the character, the nature of God and to live it out in a world that often disagrees and opposes what we believe.

Through participating in sport as a child I got better, through participating in Gods plans for us we learn his ways and consequently build up defences against our own sinful nature and the evil and destructive ways of the world!!
