Obedience

I was preparing a devotion for my youth team meeting tonight and came across one of my favourite passages of scripture - Hebrews 11. I was reading the section on Abraham - let me share it with you.

By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned."Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.

It struck me the faith that Abraham must have had. God had promised him that he would be blessed, that he would be rewarded with an inheritance. Isaac, his son would have been the tool for that to happen. To most of us, it would have seemed like God was saying one thing, then contradicting himself. Yet Abraham obeyed, he followed God, he was going to sacrifice his son, because God told him. The reality is that God knows better, his ways are so high, as David puts it in the Psalms.

We need to have a faith like Abraham, we need to be obedient to God in all things. Even if it makes absolutely no sense. Abraham figured God knew best, he was right! In all things, lets obey God, even if we don't understand what God is saying. Be obedient! Have faith!

Be obedient to God! He knows best!
