Christmas Prophecy (1)

Last Sunday I spoke in church as part of our Christmas series. In the run up to Christmas we've been looking at some Old Testament prophecies and exploring how Jesus Christ came as fulfilment to these prophecies.

When we speak of prophecy we often look back, we reflect on the major and minor prophets of the Old Testament and we see events scattering the biblical narrative that point to the fulfilment of those prophecies. When it comes to prophecies of the coming Messiah, we tend to put a full-stop after the birth of Jesus. Almost like, a tick list of prophecies fulfilled. "He's come, so that's that one done"

The author of Hebrews outlines the never-changing, eternal nature of Jesus:

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever" Hebrews 13:8

The prophet Micah refers to the Messiah's origin as "from of old, from ancient times" Micah 5:2

My point is this....

If we believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who was delivered in the form of a baby, who lived, who loved, who led, who healed, who taught, who challenged, who suffered, who died, who rose, who appeared, who ascended...

Then it stand to the reason that the expectancy of a Messiah to free from oppression, to restore, to heal, to rule should be as much for today and forever.... because Jesus Christ is the same!

Today, how does your life reflect and expectancy of Jesus

For the future, how are you living expectantly for the return of Christ as prophesied in scripture?
