I'm not normally in on a Thursday night, but as I was last night and as I haven't been feeling great recently, I had an evening in front of the TV.
After I escaped the Eastenders experience I took over the TV and watched DIY SOS. I think it was a special show focusing on how some of Children In Need's money is spent to support those who are in sheltered housing and children who don't have the kind of upbringing that many of us have had!
They basically build a huge extension on theis guys house. He had four kids and for ages they'd been living in a caravan, in cramped and poor living conditions. It was one of those programmes that make you think. There are so many people in our 'well off' country that simply aren't. One particular charity were offering single parents practical lessons such as cookery - what a great idea!
The bit that really struck me was when they did the big reveal at the end. The guy whose house had been transformed said:
"They've given their today for our tomorrow"
This was one of the most profound things I'd heard for ages and poses the hugely challenging question to us as individuals and churches.... whose tomorrows are we investing in.... because we can make a difference!
