Christmas

I can't get that song out of my head!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Asda's theme tune for the festive season!!

They are, however, quite true! I walked down our road the other day and gazed into the tasteful and absolutely vulgur Christmas lights and decorations that have adorned many local houses. Before too long easter eggs will be in the stores!!

I'm a bit of a scrooge this year! I don't know why but it just seems to have come all to quickly. But in the midst of this attitude there have been some real joys this advent.

1. Taking Christmas lessons for year 7's looking at the Biblical account of the Christmas story

2. Writing, preparing and presenting a Christmas series for our church youth called 'Following in the Footsteps of...' which looks at what it must have really been like for the main characters of the Christmas story and how we can learn from what God did through them

3. Speaking at an hour together to the more experience folk in our congregation, I treated them to a whistlestop tour of Christmas with the challenge not to breed a spirit of complacency but allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to us afresh even through the most told stories.

4. Eating our advent chocolates!

So Christmas isn't all that bad after all! Who am I to be a scrooge when I have a hope so certain and steadfast who did come into the world and called men, women and children to 'follow Him'. People want to celebrate, maybe not the birth of Christ, but what opportunities it brings for us to share our faith. By doing so we could introduce people to the greatest Christmas present ever!
