Prioritising

According to the fount of all knowledge that is Top Gear the average person in the UK spends on average 4 years of their life in a car!

Isn't time a great gift, but an amazingly misused gift!

A question that has been floating around my mind this evening is
'How hard would it be to give one or even two of the twenty four hours we have each day back to God?'

It is easy to prioritise other things in life over God. It's easy to blame busyness and procrastinate. It's easy to justify why we haven't.

When I was younger I would always kick up a stink when I was asked to (or told to) do the dishes after Sunday lunch! 'If someone told me, I wasn't going to do it'
But there were occasions where if I saw some dishes needed doing I would do them of my own back.

The same principle applies, to spend time with God we need to be motivated to do so. If we are told we can react in rebellion and treat it as legalism. If we are to see Christians grow in their own personal relationships with God we need not only tell them to read the word of God, pray and worship but also instill motivation in them to do it!

If we are not motivated we will not do!

You may have guessed that this post comes out of personal challenge to me, and is very much something I am working through and coming to figure out for my own life. The response to how we use our time and prioritise God in our daily lives has to ultimately be a personal one, in accordance with our lifestyles and how we effectively commune with God.

But, the premise is still true. We need to spend time with God to become more like Him.
What is one hour a day as a response to the great gift that God gave to us through Christ's life, death and resurrection!
