Desperate

What does it mean to be desperate for God?

I ask the question, because today I was talking with a great friend who is currently facing immediate redundancy, who wants to be in ministry, and would be great, but doesn't have any relevant qualifications, who has huge life choices to make. He's fasting at the moment, not just a small day fast, but at least 4 days. I naturally, with my love for food, sked WHY?

His answer was, 'I could fast for one day, but to be honest anyone could do that, I want to be at the point where I'm hungry and desperate for God, for His revelation into the situations of my life'

His response has stuck with me all afternoon, I'm not saying that we should all fast for long periods of time, but that in the right here, right now culture that we have here in the West, it is so easy to do things our way. How do we develop desperate, hungry hearts for God when so many people think they have everything they need?

Or closer to home, How do I become more desperate for God, when things in life are going well. When we're in situations beyond our control it can become easier to trust in God, but we're called to seek him all our days!

That challenge dwells in my heart today.....
