As I sat down today a phrase came into my head:
Walking in the footsteps of Jesus
Its probably quite an overused term in many pastors sermons or it may be the first time you have come across it. But it stuck with me. There is so much in this one phrase. When I've heard it said before it has been used as almost a throw away comment, 'as Christians we should walk in the footsteps of Jesus'
That is true, but there is so much more!!
These last couple of weeks I have seen a glimpse of what it really means to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. When actually some parts of life pretty much suck, Jesus still says follow me!
Follow me!
We need to walk, that requires action! It requires putting one foot in front of the other no matter what the road ahead may look like. It might mean grappling up one of life'smountains on our hands and knees. It might mean practically running with joy! The reality is that we are called to walk, we are called to act!
But the second part is that we have to act according to the way Jesus acted. We need to follow him through all things! Jesus experienced great joy, but also great pain.
If we are to walk in the footsteps of Jesus we need to be prepared to face pain, we need to be prepared to face trials. But with the eternal truth in mind that we will be serving an Almighty God and be walking on the road to a Heavenly home!
