As I was coming home tonight from small group, the word community came into my head.
Why?
Because tonight amongst a group of like minded people I felt something I haven't felt for a long time, a sense of common purpose, common understanding, common passions and common motivations. It was great to be part of a small community of believers who were committed to learning more from Gods word. That's exactly what community is, the oxford dictionary describes it, amongst other things as, a group of people with a common religion, race, or profession. It's something I have been missing for some time.
That's what the church should be, that's what we are called to be! The great thing is that when we start to gain a glimpse of community we find that amongst denominations, backgrounds, understandings we do have things in common. I have met Christians who disagree on various doctrines, but i do not think I have met a Christian who does not agree that Christ came to forgive our sins, once for all! Instead of focusing on things that separate us, lets focus on things that join us, lets be Godly community!
