Apparently, the younger generation find it easier to embrace change, apparently, people over 40 find it harder to embrace change. So they tell me anyway!
These thoughts come to me as within the church there are a lot of changes, this week as well as moving our Sunday services into a local school, we have also refitted part of the church with offices. It's a lot of change, but it's good change, it's exciting change. This led me to thinking, 'What is it about change that gives it such a negative press?'
Why are we always so cautious to change things? Why does change always bring complaints along with it?
I don't claim to have the answers, change brings with it insecurity, the fear of the unknown. I cant figure it out, maybe its that because I'm under 40 i can embrace change.
If we look to the business world, change is vital, it is part of the make up of a business. To be competitive you need to be on top of the market, to understand where the market is going and be able to adjust to that. Although as a church there isn't competition, because we're all in the business of winning souls for Christ, parallels could and i believe should be drawn to businesses. Particularly in regards to youth work: If we are going to attract young people linked to the church, but also those who have never been linked we need to be aware and on top of the market, we need to understand youth culture, and that requires change!!
Change is essential!!! and it keeps us on our toes!!
